That’s me, — the older one. Though don’t count Alex out . . . the youngest Tosto Chick went to her first meeting before she was one. I have pictures!

Like the proud Tosto Chicks that we all are, our goal is to work magic: How to get the masses to love the Tostobueno, the Ultimate Tostonera®, when we don’t have the fraction of any Madison Ave. advertising and promotion product budget.

Well, it’s difficult but not impossible.

Here’s a little secret I learned along time ago about money and creativity. In film class, of all places. It was 1978 and I was a film student at Miami-Dade North Community College; my professor was a man by the name of Bert Delgado. (Last I spoke to his son, dad was still there.)

It was the day all us budding directors had been waiting for. After all the theory, we were finally going to touch . . . a camera! To our youthful chagrin, Mr. Delgado pulled out some very old and dusty ones. Gave each group a limited amounts of film and sent us all forth to shoot a short. And we did. And they were great! My point: Sometimes the less you have, the more your mind works.

If you really want to see no-budget brilliance, check out Martin Scorcese’s first short. JAWS, which probably cost less than the total talent budget for the second Star Wars movie is I think Spielberg’s BEST film.

Back to the Tosto Chicks: Ainsley, Evelyn, Janet, Veronica, me and Alex. What we lack in funds, we certainly make up for it in creativity, desire and heart. Actually this week I will show you what each of us has brought to the company. Pretty amazing what a creative bunch of Chicks we are.

So today, as it is everyday as Director of Media, it is my goal to get our name out there. Tomorrow morning I’ll let you know how I fair out. I’m going to make a call to a particular person at The New York Times. That one is gonna be fun!
